Trade Fair and Congress Centre - Proposal
The theme, “Beyond the Ridges” reflects a conceptual and geographical ambition: to transcend both the physical boundaries and the symbolic separations between two contrasting landscapes the modernist urban centre of Podgorica, and the culturally rich, mountainous north of Montenegro.
The design consists of three main architectural volumes, imagined as the “central houses” of a symbolic village, framing an open marketplace-a space for trade, gathering, and collective life. Here, the image of the mountain hut is not simply transplanted into the city; it is transformed. It speaks not only to form but to memory, to belonging, and to a national story still being written.
This proposal does more than introduce a vernacular aesthetic into a modern context - it breathes tradition into modernity, infusing the city with cultural memory, spatial warmth, and a renewed architectural language. It offers not only a convention centre, but a place of convergence - between past and future, highland and lowland, citizen and state
